The Common Cold

Often mistaken as an illness, the common cold is actually a healing process that is required by the body after it has been abused by the diet and lifestyle of its owner. An over consumption of animals, animal by-products, starches, proteins, and cooked foods causes increased amounts of mucous to form inside the body that must be expelled.

Cold symptoms can include coughing, runny nose, sneezing, headaches, sore throat and water eyes which are designed to let you know that you have reached your starch limit and mucous needs to be expelled. When the mucous stays in your body it can clog or harden and lead to diseases and other disorders.

Doing all of the following suggestions will strengthen your resistance to colds:

  • Take 1 teaspoon of fresh garlic mixed with 2 tablespoons of olive oil for the first five days of each winter month- December, January, February. It is best to take it at 5am or 3 hours before drinking water or eating your first meal.

  • Take vitamin C:

  • 500mg for age 13 and up

  • 250mg for ages 5 to 12

  • Exercise

  • Get Plenty of Sunshine

  • Always use bleach in dishwater and when cleaning the bathroom area.

  • Keep your home clean and sanitized.

  • Do an internal cleanse. Two cleansing suggestions are listed below.

Cleansing Suggestion #1:

Adults, children and babies as young as 8 months can be given senna leaf and mint tea which are natural laxatives. The two are used together to prevent stomach griping from the laxative.

Tea preparation:

1 Tbsp Senna Leaves

1 Tbsp Mint Tea

1 8-ounce Cup of Water

Bring the cup of water to a boil. Remove from fire.  Put 1 tablespoon of senna leaf and 1 tablespoon of mint tea in a cup. Add the hot water, cover and let steep for 10 minutes. Strain and serve.

Age                                         Dosage

8 months to 1 year                    7 Tbsp Tea plus 3 Tbsp Water

2 to 5 years                              7 Tbsp of Tea

6 to 11 years                            ½ Cup of Tea

12 and older                             1 Cup of  Tea

Cleansing Suggestion #2:

A second cleansing alternative is good ole fashion CASTOR OIL!

A good way to hide the taste of the castor is to mix it with orange juice or another seasonal juice.

Age                                         Dosage

1 to 3 years                              1 ½ Tbsp in 4 ounces of juice

4 to 6 years                              2 Tbsp in 4 ounces of juice

7 to 11 years                            3 Tbsp in 4 ounces of juice

12 years and older                    5 Tbsp in 1 cup of juice

Remember to always drink plenty of water when doing a cleanse. To receive the best results, the pre-requisite is to eliminate animals and their by-products from your diet; quit smoking, drinking, and taking drugs; and remove negative energy from your life.

Testimony

Before I became a vegetarian, I used to get colds all the time.  Now I never get sick. I would say three things have helped me. My diet was the typical SAD (Standard American Diet). One day, a friend told me about a lady she met who eats no dairy products and never gives her children sugar. She said that the “crust” that forms in the eyes, throat congestion, and runny nose that many of us wake up to in the morning actually results from milk consumption. It causes mucous build-up as the body is trying to fight against this poison. So I quit drinking it. That was the first step.

Then I learned about balancing starches and proteins- even now as a vegan- with fresh raw salads on my dinner plate. The enzymes in the salad help with the digestion of the starches and proteins. This also is a key factor in weight loss. So the excess pounds began to melt off of my body. When I would feel a sore throat coming, I would fight it by eating a whole bunch of spinach (Popeye was right), taking olive oil and garlic and popping vitamin C tablets. It takes a little time out of my day, but I hate being sick!
